Software Developer – ColdFusion

Project Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Developer to design and develop a voice-activated data entry program. The system will allow field staff to speak into their mobile phones or desktop computers to automatically populate specific fields in our legacy database and trigger automatic notifications.

Technical Environment

• Database: Adobe ColdFusion (CFML) / associated relational database (e.g., MS SQL Server / MySQL)
• Notifications: Custom SMS infrastructure is already built into our software platform and accessible via API/endpoints.
• Target Interface: Mobile phone web application or dedicated mobile interface.

Scope of Work & Key Deliverables

1. Voice-to-Data Processing Pipeline (AI Front-End)

• Integrate a modern Conversational AI or Speech-to-Text API (such as OpenAI Realtime API, Vapi, Retell AI, or AWS Transcribe) capable of natural language understanding.
• The system must not just transcribe text, but dynamically extract structured entities out of unstructured speech (e.g., identifying a location, description of an incident, and names from a single spoken phrase).

2. ColdFusion Database Integration (The Backend)

• Develop secure backend handlers (ColdFusion Components / CFCs) or custom APIs to receive the structured data payloads from the voice interface.
• Map and securely insert the extracted voice data into our existing database schemas.
• Target Workflows to Implement:
• CMMS Work Orders: Creating maintenance requests, mapping fields like *Location*, *Asset ID*, and *Issue Description*.
• Emergency Incidents: Quick-logging critical safety hazards or active emergencies.
• Safety Reports: Formulating structured records for reporting injuries, site accidents, or sudden worker illnesses.

3. Automated Notification Dispatch

• Program automated system triggers upon successful database insertion.
• Hook into our existing, platform-native SMS capabilities to send instant alerts.
• Configure conditional routing logic:
• *Internal routing:* Auto-dispatching incident summaries via SMS to the internal Safety Officer.
• *External routing:* Auto-dispatching urgent details to designated outside agencies depending on the severity and type of incident reported.

Required Developer Qualifications

• ColdFusion Expertise: Strong, proven experience working with legacy and modern Adobe ColdFusion (CFML) environments, database connections, and CFCs.
• Speech Recognition & AI Integration: Experience working with Speech-to-Text APIs, Large Language Models (LLMs) for entity extraction, or AI voice platforms.
• API & Webhook Development: Proficient in building and consuming RESTful APIs, JSON parsing, and handling webhook events securely.
• Mobile Web Optimization: Experience formatting user interfaces that operate reliably on field mobile browsers (iOS & Android).

Project Timeline & Milestones (To Be Finalized upon Hire)

• Milestone 1: Architecture Design & Choice of Voice Extraction Pipeline
• Milestone 2: ColdFusion API Endpoint Creation & Successful Database Insertion Tests
• Milestone 3: Core Workflow Deployment (CMMS, Emergencies, Safety Reporting)
• Milestone 4: SMS Notification Testing, Edge-Case Debugging, and Final Handover

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who can step into an existing software environment, quickly understand how it works, and contribute immediately. This is not simply a greenfield development position. The ability to work with established ColdFusion applications, troubleshoot existing functionality, and build reliable integrations is particularly important.
