Job Description
About Foji
Foji automates the revenue cycle for dental practices and dental service organizations (DSOs). Front offices lose hours every day to insurance verification, benefits breakdowns, claim follow-up and payment reconciliation. Foji does that work for them.
Our platform plugs directly into practice management systems like Open Dental and Dentrix. It handles insurance verification and benefits, claim tracking, payment posting and bank reconciliation. Next up: claim submission, pre-authorization submission and automated denied-claim appeals.
We're a small, fast-moving team with real revenue and multi-location DSO customers who rely on Foji every day.
The role
We're hiring a Software Engineer with 3–5 years of experience to own features end to end, from database to UI. You'll work directly with the founders and ship code that customers use the same week.
This is not a ticket-taking job. You'll talk to customers, help shape what we build, and work on hard problems: syncing data from practice management systems, automating insurance payer portals, and turning messy remittance data into clean, reconciled payments.
What you'll do
- Design, build and ship full stack features across our web app, APIs and data pipelines
- Build AI into the product: use LLMs to read benefits documents, interpret claim and remittance data, draft denied-claim appeals and answer support questions
- Work AI-first every day: use AI coding agents and assistants (like Claude Code or Cursor) to plan, write, test and review code, and help the team get more out of them
- Build evaluation and guardrails so AI outputs are accurate, auditable and safe to use with patient data
- Build and maintain integrations with dental practice management systems (Open Dental, Dentrix)
- Develop browser automation that pulls eligibility, benefits and claim data from insurance payer portals
- Build workflows for payment posting and bank reconciliation
- Debug production issues across systems and data sources you don't fully control
- Improve reliability, observability and test coverage as we scale to more practices
- Handle protected health information responsibly and help keep us HIPAA compliant
- Work with sales and support to understand customer pain and turn it into product
What we're looking for
- 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, building and shipping production web applications
- Strong skills on both the frontend (modern JavaScript/TypeScript and a framework like React) and the backend (APIs, services, background jobs) using primarily NodeJS and Python
- Solid SQL and relational database experience, including data modeling and debugging data issues
- Experience integrating with third-party systems and APIs, and handling the messy edge cases that come with them
- Comfort owning a feature from spec to production, including deploys and monitoring
- Clear written communication and good judgment working with little process
- A bias for shipping: you'd rather deliver something useful this week than something perfect next quarter
Nice to have
- Browser automation experience with Playwright
- Experience with HIPAA, SOC 2 or other compliance-driven environments
- Experience building ETL or data sync pipelines
- Experience with CRM or support tool integrations (for example, HubSpot)
- Experience building products on LLM APIs (prompting, tool use, evals)
- Prior startup experience
Pay: $95,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
Benefits
- Dental insurance
- Dependent health insurance coverage
- Flexible spending account
- Health insurance
- Health savings account
- Paid holidays
- Partner benefits
- Unlimited paid time off
- Vision insurance
- Work from home
