We are seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to take ownership of our backend data processing layer. In this role, you will design and build the services responsible for raw data ingestion, programmatic cleanup, canonical normalization, zero-trust data protection, and downstream metric aggregation for our internal analytics and basic data warehouse.
Operating entirely in an AWS cloud environment, you will build application layers that process high-volume polyglot data across distributed document-oriented NoSQL stores and relational databases. Your focus will be on writing resilient code, establishing strict multi-tenant boundaries, and transforming raw, messy operational feeds into clean, derived data models that power both core product features and business reporting.
What you bring to the table
- Ingestion & Normalization Services: Build high-throughput microservices and APIs to ingest, parse, validate, and normalize noisy data streams from varied third-party systems (POS, inventory, reservation feeds) into consistent, canonical domain formats.
- Derived Data & Warehouse Pipelines: Design and build batch and stream-processing jobs to aggregate operational records into derived analytical datasets, dimensional models, and warehouse-ready tables (e.g., daily restaurant performance, sales velocity, labor cost metrics).
- Asynchronous Processing: Architect and maintain event-driven worker services and message queues on AWS to handle real-time deduplication, schema validation, and transactional reconciliation.
- Data Privacy & Application Security: Engineer security guardrails directly into the software layer, including tenant isolation, field-level encryption, PII masking, tokenization, audit trails, and automated data retention enforcement.
- Polyglot Persistence Layer: Develop performant data-access layers, aggregation logic, and transactional boundaries across distributed document/NoSQL stores, relational engines, and analytical storage layers.
- Resilience & Quality: Write extensive unit, integration, and contract tests to guarantee data fidelity. Implement dead-letter queues, automated retry mechanisms, and observability to track data hygiene and schema drift.
Who will be the best fit
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade backend services and distributed systems.
- Primary Stack Proficiency: Strong production expertise in [e.g., Go / Node.js & TypeScript / Python / Java] with an emphasis on microservice design, clean architecture, and concurrency.
- NoSQL Document Store Experience: Deep experience writing performant data models, complex queries, and aggregation workflows for distributed document-oriented databases at scale.
- Relational Database Fluency: Solid software integration experience with relational database systems (schema migrations, transaction management, connection pooling, and optimized query design).
- Data Modeling & Analytics Exposure: Hands-on experience creating derived datasets, rollup aggregations, and basic dimensional data models (star/snowflake schemas, daily/hourly rollups) for analytics consumption.
- AWS Cloud Native: Hands-on experience building on core AWS services (e.g., ECS/EKS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, EventBridge, KMS, S3, Secrets Manager).
- Defensive Coding & Security: Practical knowledge of software-level security patterns, including payload validation, symmetric/asymmetric encryption workflows, role-based access control (RBAC), and sanitization of sensitive business data.
- Mandarin Chinese communication ability.
Even Better
- Prior experience in multi-tenant B2B SaaS, fintech, or hospitality/retail technology platforms.
- Experience with cloud data warehouse or query tools (e.g., AWS Redshift, Athena, Snowflake, ClickHouse, or columnar storage formats like Parquet).
- Familiarity with Change Data Capture (CDC) pipelines for shipping operational data to analytics targets.
- Familiarity with compliance-oriented software development (SOC 2, PCI-DSS data boundary requirements).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK) and CI/CD automation.
- AI assisted code development
