BisectHosting is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer, Multiplayer to design and build core infrastructure for game studios running dedicated multiplayer servers.
You'll own systems across server allocation, fleet management, deployments, scaling, and developer-facing APIs, from architecture through production operation. As a senior engineer, you'll also help set technical direction, improve engineering standards, and mentor other engineers.
Requirements: What you'll work on:
- Architect multiplayer server orchestration, allocation, scheduling, and lifecycle systems
- Design fleet management, autoscaling, regional placement, health, and failure recovery
- Build deployment, rollout, rollback, and capacity-management systems
- Develop control-plane services, host agents, and APIs for game backends and matchmaking
- Build Infrastructure-as-Code across cloud, bare-metal, and BisectFleets™ environments
- Design reliable distributed systems around retries, idempotency, reconciliation, partial failures, and eventual consistency
- Build observability for allocation latency, fleet health, capacity, and infrastructure failures
- Lead technical design for major platform initiatives
- Own production reliability, incident response, and root-cause improvements
- Mentor engineers and raise standards through design and code reviews
What we're looking for
- Strong professional experience building backend, infrastructure, platform, or distributed systems
- Professional experience with multiplayer infrastructure
- Experience supporting at least one multiplayer game or online service through production launch
- Strong understanding of dedicated game servers, matchmaking, sessions, and multiplayer networking
- Strong Linux, networking, Docker, and cloud infrastructure fundamentals
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code such as Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, or CDK
- Experience designing highly available systems, asynchronous workflow
