Job Description

Quality Assurance Tester/Software Development Engineer in Test

(SDET) – Journey Level Equivalency

XeroOne Systems

prides ourselves on being more than a contracting firm. We are technology consultants that seek to drive the best outcomes for our clients. In joining our team, you will work remotely, but will be supported by our team of professionals. We're looking for self-starters with a desire to learn our client's line of business and seek opportunities for continuous improvement.

Client

WA State Employment Security Department (ESD) Project: Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) and Long-term care (WaCares) program Role: QA developer, member of Agile / Scrum Leave and Care Technology (LCT) Team Engagement Type: Contract (1099) or Contract-to-Hire (W-2)

Project Overview

We are hiring for a QA professional that supports and contributes to the design and creation of automated tests for applications to validate the system is performing as defined in the business requirements and technical specifications. They will work within an agile scrum environment to execute tests and test suites to support continuous integration, report on testing results and create and/or maintain relevant documentation. This position applies QA strategies, frameworks and best practices as assigned by the Application Quality Assurance Supervisor and the Principal Engineer for Quality Assurance to ensure the release of high quality, maintainable and extensible applications.

Ideal Candidate

We will show a strong preference for someone who can truly support client's automated testing work through test automation engineering. A good tester has a particular mindset and approach; they like to find the cracks and break things. We want that mindset, that approach, combined with good development skills so they can build, execute and maintain code-driven testing in a CICD environment. This position will be part of a scrum team, will work with other developers, SDETs and likely an old school “manual” QA/tester or two as well.

We will also give preference to candidates with recent, relevant MS Dynamics, particularly F&O and/or CE, experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automated tests including, but not limited to, Unit, System, Functional, User interface, Integration, Performance and Security tests
  • Design, create, and update databases
  • Develop and maintain test applications/tools
  • Centralize and standardize tests and test suites for reuse
  • Utilize Application Lifecycle Management tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO)
  • Develop automated tests in C# following object-oriented design principles
  • Develop automated UI tests using tools such as Selenium
  • Develop API tests in C# and using tools such as Postman
  • Test custom web applications, backend processes, infrastructure and applications such as D365 F&O and CRM
  • Outcome: Provides confidence to make changes in applications by executing repeatable, reliable tests that discover issues early in the application development lifecycle. This ensures that the applications are of high quality so that internal and external users aren’t impacted when application changes are deployed.

Technical analysis

of documentation, applications, data, and source code including:

  • Perform system impact analysis
  • Perform code analysis
  • Business rule analysis
  • Automation test analysis
  • Acceptance criteria analysis
  • Data result set analysis
  • Decision tree analysis
  • Monitor and analyze system performance
  • Analyze test results
  • Trace log analysis
  • Outcome: Analysis of business rules and acceptance criteria helps keep the project focused on the needs of the business, the quality and clarity of acceptance criteria, and defines more challenging areas of the code for testing. Analyzing issue trends helps the development team prioritize their focus on areas that may be more susceptible to issues. We perform various types of analysis so that we can discover the root causes of issues early in the application lifecycle and target development efforts towards the needs of our end users.

Create solutions

to support continuous integration

  • Design and create manual and/or automated tests
  • Support the development of test automation build workflows using tools such as ADO Pipelines
  • Create automated release workflows
  • Collaborate closely with Release Management team members
  • Verify and validate successful code migration and implementation.
  • Outcome: Continuous Integration is the build and test portion of a Continuous Development solution. Continuous Integration allows for quickly and confidently deploying repeatable, robust changes to production environments with minimal human interactions, so that we can quickly, confidently adapt to changing business needs in an automated fashion.

Create and maintain technical documentation:

  • Create bugs/issue reports
  • Create test specifications
  • Create test cases
  • Create functional workflow diagrams
  • Record defects in defect tracking tools (Azure DevOps / Test Manager / etc)
  • Outcome: Technical documentation provides direction, scope, traceability, and auditability for project requirements so that we have a clear guideline/blueprint of expectations and test outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic proficiency in C# — enough to read code, write simple automated tests, and follow OOP principles.
  • Familiarity with SQL — ability to query data, validate results, and understand relational structures.
  • Strong documentation skills — building test plans, specs, workflow diagrams, etc.
  • Ability to analyze acceptance criteria and translate them into test cases.
  • Strong defect investigation skills including logs, data, repro steps, root cause clues.
  • Comfort working in agile/scrum ceremonies, sprint cadence, cross-functional collaboration.
